Bahrain that this type of large sporting event was now been put on the map for the region now i was surprised by this next fact that bahrain was one of the earliest adopters of islam now this may or may not be true but historians believe that bahrain converted to islam as early as 628 a.d this would mean that the nation was islamic four years before the death of the prophet muhammad peace be upon him the famous al hamish mosque dates to 692 a.d and it was bahrain's first mosque and is one of the oldest and most important mosques in the entire world now this is a huge deal if i do say so myself if you're in love with nature this next fact is for you as bahrain.
Bahrain is the home to the tree of life now in the mid 1500s a single mesquite tree was planted in bahrain's southern desert believe it or not to this day the tree still stands in full bloom don't believe us that a lush green tree can survive in the middle of a waterless desert well don't just take our word for it check out this photo i think you can see very clearly why this tree is called the tree of life it's a pretty remarkable sight to see and it has grown and survived for over three centuries in fact the tree attracts approximately 65 000 visitors per year would you make a trip to bahrain to see this wonder i know i would i don't know about you but i love a good theme park and in fact especially if it includes water bahrain.

Bahraini dinar for taking or posting a picture or a video of a person directly in an inappropriate situation or in a private or public place so to put this into perspective that's almost 2 700 u.s now i know they say a picture can be worth a thousand words but i'm not too sure i would say that it's worth thousands of dollars so please my friends if you're ever in behind be careful as you take those travel selfies fact number three brings us down to bahrain's age now yes we don't usually talk about age but this country this small country is only 50 years old believe it or not bahrain.
Bahrain has just celebrated their 50th birthday as an independent nation the history of the era dates back several millennia but bahrain has only been an independent nation for about 50 years they declared their nationhood and joined the united nations in 1971 and shortly after they also joined the arab league before this time the nation bounced between the persian empire portuguese british and other nations bahrain officially left the british empire in 1971. i don't know about you but it's crazy to think that such a short time ago this beautiful country was under foreign command all right let's talk a little bit about energy bakland is the biggest per capita consumer of electricity in asia and the third biggest in the world after iceland and norway can you believe this i had no idea and it's pretty shocking that a country of bahrain's.
Bahrain size could be the third largest consumer of electricity in the world now you might be wondering why and i'm going to tell you so the country is actually witnessing a high population growth rate rapid urbanization industrialization and commercialization with more visitors coming into the country now this coupled with the rising temperatures and increased need for cooling appliances this is causing a fast growing domestic demand for energy according to our sources bahrain's generation capacity is 3150 megawatts predominantly coming from a thermal oil or gas-fired power plants despite the fact that the country uses almost three times more energy per person than the world average it could actually provide itself completely with self-produced energy if necessary however bahrain actually trades energy with many other nations and bringing us down to our final fact of the day we're going to be talking about the king fahed causeway which is a series of bridges that divide.
Bahrain and saudi arabia and it was the only bridge at one point in the world where women could only drive on one side now can you guess which countryside that was all right if you guessed behind you are correct due to a ban on women driving in saudi arabia from 1957 to 2018 the causeway was at one point the only bridge in the world where women could drive on only one side of course the bahraini side and not the saudi arabia side now interestingly enough the border where the rules change is located roughly halfway across the causeway the purpose of the causeway was to strengthen the bonds between the two countries but isn't that rule a bit wild that you could drive as a woman halfway across the bridge and then you would have to switch with your hopefully male passenger i don't know how you feel about that but we definitely want to hear from you alright friends that brings us to the end of today's facts.
