1 The Republic of North Macedonia is located in South Eastern Europe. It is a landlocked nation of ancient monasteries, Roman ruins, historic churches and beautiful mosques adorned with frescoes.
2 The country became independent on 17 September 1991 after the fall of Yugoslavia. For years, it was called the former Yugoslav Republic or, in short, FYROM. Before becoming part of Yugoslavia in 1929.
3 North Macedonia was a part of the Kingdom of Bulgaria. When North Macedonia became independent from Yugoslavia, a dispute arose between the people of Macedonia and Greece.
4 It was a dispute over the name of the country of Macedonia which was resolved in February 2019 when Macedonia was renamed as North Macedonia.
5 When Alexander was the emperor, the Macedonian Empire extended from Greece to India. Archaeological evidence suggests that by 7000 BC, civilizations flourished in North Macedonia.
