Welcome to Countries Facts so Today in this Article I will show you the whole history of angola the first settlers in the geographical space currently known as angola were the sun hunter-gatherers after which the northern domains such as indongo and congo settled there located in southwestern africa the country derived its name angola meaning king from kimbundu a bantu language portuguese colonists began trading in angola in the 15th century before another settlement was established at luanda the country's capital in the 16th century right from 1655 angola became a portuguese colony and was a peaceful colony until the quest for independence began the angolan war of independence began on the 4th of february 1961 and ended in 1974. the country gained independence a year after on the 11th of november 1975. just a few months after independence a civil war broke out in angola and lasted until 2002. angola is bordered by the republic of congo to the far northwest the democratic republic of the congo to the north and north east and by zambia to the south east to the south east namibia and to the west is the atlantic ocean with a population of over 32 million people angola has various ethnic groups some of which are the bantu the ovimbundu the kimbundu and the bakongo people among the country's numerous ethnic groups there are about 50 languages however portuguese is the country's official language the most common religions in angola are christianity judaism islam and traditional religions however it is highly populated with christians while about two-fifths of the population is roman catholic another two-fifth is protestant and about one-tenth of angolans hold on to their traditional beliefs and other religions officially known as republica de angola the country operates a unitary multi-party republic in 1974 there was a coup d'etat that resulted in the military government led by president antonio despinola just before the independence year the popular movement for the liberation of angola mpla then ruled the country from 1975 to 1991 when the country adopted a multi-party system antonio agustino nato was the first president of angola from 1975 to 1979. he led the mpla in the war for independence between 1961 and 1974. joao manuel lorenzo is the president of angola as of 2021 angola has 18 provinces some of which are bengal benguela the country uses the angolan kwanzaa as its official currency and its gross domestic product gdp as of 2020 was 62.7 billion u.s dollars angola has since the end of the war suffered an economic downturn and as a result has depended on the international community for survival amid its crisis the country remains rich in natural resources such as metals precious gems and petroleum unfortunately like many african countries angola suffered a brain drain in 1975 due to the instability that the country suffered this loss had much negative impact on the country's economic development angola currently ranks among the highest oil producing countries in sub-saharan africa and is one of the wealthiest of the portuguese-speaking african states anyone who has been to angola will testify that the country is blessed with lots of beautiful places who wouldn't just love to visit fortaleza de sao miguel sangano beach or mausoleum of agostino those are unarguably fascinating places angola's diversity of culture is a mix of awesomeness and that is evident in the country's festivals such as the zumbi music festival the luanda island feast and the angola carnival angola's music is certainly top notch and that is why the country boasts of some of africa's best musicians like paulo flores burakasam sistema roy mingas and many others as the country is big on entertainment so it is big on sports even though there are many sports played in angola football and basketball are the most popular among them the country showed its competence in football in 2006 when its national team qualified for the fifa world cup in germany despite its challenges angola remains one of the countries that have the fastest growing economies in africa what have we missed out of this history let know in the comment section will it be ridiculous to subscribe to our website if no please like this Article share and subscribe to our website bye.
